Google May Be Testing Business Profile Posts Higher Up
If you stopped posting updates on your Google Business Profile because nobody seemed to see them, this may be a good moment to start again. People in the local search industry report that Google is testing a higher spot for Posts on business profiles in Google Search.
Google has not commented on this in public, as far as we and the source below can see. So this article only says what was reported.
What was spotted
On October 19, 2026, Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google seems to be moving the Posts section (the updates a business publishes) higher up in the local panel. That is the box with your business details that shows up when someone searches for your business on Google.
According to the report:
- Local SEO consultant Ben Fisher posted about it on LinkedIn a few days earlier: "GBP KP is now testing a higher position on posts!" (GBP KP means the Google Business Profile knowledge panel.)
- Fisher said the position keeps changing: "Now every 3 days I am seeing posts move up and then 3 days later they move down."
- Barry Schwartz, who wrote the report, said he was also seeing Posts in the higher position.
Search Engine Roundtable also notes that Google moved Posts to the bottom of the panel in 2018. So this would undo a change that has been in place for years.
Is it confirmed? No. This is a test that people in the industry saw on some profiles. It may not show for every business, and Google can stop it at any time.
Why it matters
When Posts sit at the bottom of your profile, most people never scroll far enough to see them. If they move near the top, a recent post could be one of the first things a possible customer reads about you.
That works both ways. A fresh offer or event gives people a reason to call or visit. A post from last spring about an expired deal makes your business look neglected.
What to do
These steps are useful whether or not the test becomes permanent. The details come from Google's help page on posts.
- Check your latest post. Search for your business on Google and look at what shows now. Delete or update anything out of date.
- Post regularly. Google has three types of posts: Updates, Offers and Events. Google says "Posts older than 6 months are archived unless a date range is set", so a steady schedule keeps something current on your profile.
- Use scheduling. You can schedule a post for a later date and time, and set it to repeat weekly, monthly or on a custom schedule. This makes a routine easier to keep.
- Add an action button. Updates and Events can include a button with a link, for example to make a booking, order online or learn more. Offers get a "View offer" button automatically.
- Follow the posts policy. Google checks each post against its content policy. A post shows as "Pending" while Google reviews it, and as "Not approved" if it breaks the rules. Google says posts with a phone number "might get rejected if they cannot be verified as being connected to the business".
A note about Localocare
Localocare is a Google Maps tool for local businesses. It does not create or schedule Business Profile posts. Posts help people choose you once they find you, but first they need to find you.
The free check searches Google Maps from 25 points around your business and shows the 3 places Google shows instead of you.
